About the Organization:
The Papahānaumokuākea Marine Debris Project (PMDP) is a Hawaii-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the critical wildlife and habitats of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument through annual large-scale marine debris cleanup missions. Over the past five years, PMDP has removed more than 1 million pounds of debris from Papahānaumokuākeaʻs remote reefs and shorelines.
Kevin OʻBrien is the President and Founder of the Papahānaumokuākea Marine Debris Project (www.pmdphawaii.org). Before founding PMDP, Kevin spent 12 years with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Honolulu, where he led and coordinated ship-based marine research missions throughout the Pacific. His work included planning and executing large-scale marine debris removal efforts within the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument.
